Your pregnancy: 16 weeks
See the big picture
How your baby's growing:Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Here are a couple 16 week pictures...taken by my lovely husband.

We had our 16 week Dr. appointment and all went well. I have only gained 3 lbs, which I was thrilled about. It feels way more than that...so I'll take 3!!! At the appointment they took some blood so they could screen for downs syndrome...I am a little hesitant about it because it is not very accurate. 1 in 4 comes back with a false positive...meaning scaring the crap out of people for no reason. I'll keep my fingers crossed in hopes that everything comes out ok. The baby's heartbeat was awesome to hear again, and Brandon was there and got to hear it for the first time. He was so cute...as soon as he heard it he squeezed my foot and got this huge smile on his face! Baby's BPM were at 150.
The only disappointment that came out of the visit was I was totally expecting my next appt. to be the BIG ultrasound appointment. Well to my shagrin, since they don't do u/s at their office I will have to go (across the street basically) to the imaging office. WELL, they will write up my script for the u/s at my next appointment and THEN i can go make the appointment for the u/s! UGH...it could be a week or so AFTER....have I mentioned my patience level at this point! Disappointing if you ask me, but Brandon suggested we call a week before my appt. and ask that they write up the script early so I can make the u/s the same day. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this works!!!
Well that is all for now...I'll check back next week when I'm sure I'll have more news (we are buying the crib etc this weekend!)
